The Assyrian Parliament expresses its condolences and solidarity with the victims and their families following the terrorist attack on St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church in Hamoud, in Jordan’s Karak Governorate. We strongly condemn this act of violence against a place of worship and extend our heartfelt sympathies to all those affected.
As a nation with a long history of persecution, massacres, displacement, and attacks against our churches and communities, the Assyrian people understand the profound pain and fear caused by such acts of terror.
Jordan has also served as a place of refuge for many Assyrians forced to leave their ancestral homeland. Many Assyrian refugees live in Jordan and attend local churches, making the safety of religious communities there a matter of particular concern to us.
The Assyrian Parliament condemns terrorism and violence against innocent people and reaffirms the fundamental right of every person to worship freely and safely, regardless of religious affiliation. Places of worship must remain sanctuaries of peace, free from fear, intimidation, and violence.
We stand in solidarity with the victims and their families and express our support for the Jordanian government as it works to protect religious communities and places of worship and ensure accountability for those responsible.
