A New Chapter in the Assyrian National Journey

Jönköping 2026 – 6776

With pride, gratitude, and a profound sense of responsibility, we announce the successful conclusion of the First Annual Meeting of the Assyrian Parliament, held in Jönköping, Sweden, from September 25–27, 2026.

For three historic days, Assyrians from the homeland and across the diaspora gathered under one roof, joined by a common identity, a shared history, and a determination to help shape the future of our people.

Jönköping was more than a conference.

It was a meeting of minds, generations, experiences, and aspirations. It provided a platform where different voices could be heard, ideas openly exchanged, challenges honestly examined, and a vision for the future discussed with seriousness and responsibility.

During the meeting, the Parliament reflected upon its first year, evaluated its progress and challenges, and considered the priorities that must guide its work in the years ahead. Important discussions addressed the preservation of our national identity, language, culture, and historical heritage; the strengthening of cooperation among Assyrian organizations and communities; the situation of our people in the ancestral homeland; and the need for a stronger and more coordinated Assyrian voice internationally.

We recognize that building a lasting national institution is neither simple nor accomplished in a single year. It requires patience, openness, accountability, mutual respect, and above all, the willingness to place the interests of our people above individual and organizational differences.

The diversity of opinion expressed in Jönköping should therefore not be regarded as a weakness. A healthy representative institution must provide room for discussion, disagreement, and constructive criticism. Our challenge is to transform that diversity into strength and our shared aspirations into action.

We extend our deepest gratitude to all those who traveled from near and far to participate, to our delegates, speakers, guests, organizations, supporters, volunteers, and particularly to our Assyrian community in Sweden for its generous hospitality and tireless efforts in making this gathering possible.

To those who participated from the homeland, we express our special appreciation. Their presence reminded us that regardless of how widely our people have been dispersed, our historical homeland remains at the heart of our national consciousness and responsibility.

The closing of the doors of the conference hall does not mark the end of Jönköping.

It marks the beginning of the work that must follow it.

The value of this gathering will ultimately be measured not only by the words spoken or resolutions adopted, but by what we accomplish together afterward.

We therefore leave Jönköping with renewed determination: to strengthen the Assyrian Parliament as a representative institution; to build bridges among our communities and organizations; to encourage the participation of our youth and future generations; to safeguard our language and cultural heritage; and to advocate peacefully and persistently for the dignity, security, recognition, and legitimate rights of the Assyrian people.

Our people have endured displacement, persecution, division, and extraordinary hardship throughout their long history. Yet they have preserved their name, their language, their faith traditions, their culture, and their connection to their ancestral homeland.

That resilience carries with it a responsibility.

We owe it to those who came before us to preserve what they entrusted to us.

We owe it to those living today to work together with courage and wisdom.

And we owe it to the generations yet to come to leave them something stronger than what we inherited.

Jönköping will therefore be remembered not merely as the place where we gathered, but as a place where we renewed our commitment to one another and to the future of the Assyrian people.

Our conference has concluded.
Our responsibility has not.
