CONDOLENCE STATEMENT In Memory of Assyrian Nationalist Giwargis Khoshaba (Abu Vinoce)

𝘚𝘦𝘱𝘵𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 8, 2026 – 6776

The Assyrian Parliament extends its deepest condolences and sincere sympathies on the passing of the distinguished Assyrian nationalist and activist Giwargis Khoshaba, known as Abu Vinoce, who passed away on September 2, 2026, following a long battle with illness.

Abu Vinoce belonged to the first generation of Assyrian national activists in the homeland of Assyria (Iraq). He was one of the founders of the Assyrian Progressive Popular Movement and dedicated much of his life to serving his people and advocating for the national, democratic, and human rights of the Assyrian people in their ancestral homeland.

The Assyrian Parliament remembers Abu Vinoce with profound respect for his lifelong commitment to the Assyrian cause and for his contribution to the development of Assyrian national thought and political organization.

Among his important contributions was his vision, expressed as early as 2014, for the establishment of an Assyrian Parliament outside the borders of Assyria. He believed that such an institution could provide the Assyrian people with an independent platform through which their national cause and legitimate rights could be brought before the international community and decision-makers, away from the pressures, intimidation, and limitations faced by Assyrians and their institutions in the homeland.

This vision continued to grow among Assyrian leaders and activists in the homeland and throughout the diaspora. Years later, it became a reality with the establishment of the Assyrian Parliament in Gothenburg, Sweden, on September 21, 2025.

The Assyrian Parliament recognizes Abu Vinoce as one of those who helped lay an important intellectual foundation for this vision. His legacy reminds us that the struggle for the rights and future of the Assyrian people transcends individuals and generations.

His passing marks the end of a life dedicated to his people, but not the end of the cause to which he devoted himself. The ideas, principles, and aspirations he carried forward remain alive in those who continue to carry the torch.

The Assyrian Parliament extends its heartfelt condolences to Abu Vinoce’s family, relatives, friends, and fellow activists, as well as to the entire Assyrian nation.

May his memory remain a lasting part of our national history, and may the values for which he dedicated his life continue to inspire future generations.

Though Abu Vinoce has departed, the torch he carried remains lit, and the journey continues.
