The Assyrian Parliament Member, Mr. Yousif Bet Yousif, elected from Sweden, concluded an official and social visit of the Assyrian Parliament Member to Australia, which included the cities of Sydney and Melbourne during last November and the current month of December. He met with a number of members of our Assyrian community and representatives of national, cultural, and social institutions, discussing with them the communityโ€™s conditions and ways to enhance joint national work.

Bet Yousif began his meetings with a visit to the Assyrian National Council, where he met with the elected Assyrian Parliament Members from Australia:
Mr. Hermiz Shahen, Mr. Sargon D. Dadisho, and Mr. Anwia Sadeq.

The meeting discussed the situation of the Assyrian community in Australia, the challenges it faces, and ways to strengthen cooperation with national institutions, as well as activating engagement with Australian political parties through establishing a lobby and sustainable channels of communication. Mr. Hermiz Shahen also presented an overview of the history of Assyrian national work in Australia since the 1970s.

On Thursday, November 27, another meeting was held with Mr. Hermiz Shahen at the Assyrian National Council, during which discussions continued about joint work and the future of national relations.

He also met at the Assyrian Cultural and Sports Club in Fairfield with Mr. Farouk Korkis, Mr. Anwar Atto, and Mr. Sargon George, where they discussed developments related to the Assyrian Conference held in Gothenburg, Sweden, from September 19 to 21, which succeeded in establishing the Assyrian Parliament. They also discussed the future of national work in the diaspora and ways to unify Assyrian institutions.

On November 12, Bet Yousif met with the distinguished visual artist Edward at his workplace, where Edward provided an overview of his major artistic project, which includes paintings of the late Queen Elizabeth of Britain and Australian presidents.

On November 18, he met with national activist Adnan Sada, who came from the United States, along with Mr. Salem Khai from Melbourne.

On November 29, he met with Mr. Sargon Korkis and Mr. Waad from the Academic Graduates Group in Australia, discussing with them the role of specialists and professionals in supporting the national cause.

He also held several meetings with activists and media figures, including Mr. Youram Bet-Yonan, Mr. Qleems, journalist Sargon Warda, lawyer Sargon Fayado from Ashur, and Major Yousif Benjamin, who gifted Bet-Yousif a copy of his new book on the history of national work and the establishment of the Assyrian Battalion in the 1990s.

In another meeting, he held an extended conversation with the prominent Assyrian writer Adam Daniel Homeh about the situation of the Assyrian people in the homeland and the diaspora.

An important session was held with Dr. William Eshaya and Major Yousif Benjamin, during which they discussed developments regarding the Assyrian cause, the Sweden conference, and its outcome on the future of national work.

On December 5, he met with a group of Assyrian nationalists in Sydney, including Mr. Johnny Youkhana, Mr. Jan Bubo Qasha Zia, and Mr. Khalis, discussing with them ways to enhance the communityโ€™s role in supporting national issues.

On December 6, he held a meeting in central Sydney with Mr. Adnan and Mr. Jan.

He also met with Mr. Romel Shlimon (brother of martyr Youbert Shlimon) and Mr. Sami Hawel in a session that addressed the situation of our people in Assyria and in the diaspora.

On December 7, Mr. Yousif Bet Yousif participated in the founding celebration of the Assyrian Australian Association for Professionals, attended by Australian Energy Minister Chris Bowen and parliamentarian Dr. Hugh McDermott, along with Mr. Hermiz Shahen. They discussed the presence of the Assyrian community in Australian society and its active role.
