In light of the conditions that are afflicting our proud Assyrian people, worsening due to the policies of occupation, killing, marginalization, and displacement by successive governments in the land of Assyria, which have occupied all the joints of the Assyrian state since the fall of the capital Nineveh at the hands of the enemies of culture, civilization, and humanity until this day. These policies, and even harsher ones, are being applied to the Assyrian people remaining on their historical land in Assyria. The influential foreigners in power are seizing lands that have always belonged to the Assyrian people in their historical lands and towns, forcing the Assyrians to leave their homeland through malicious methods, buying off consciences, intimidation, and other tactics that strip them of their most basic rights on their holy land.

 

In light of all these, today we commemorate the historical anniversary in which we remember all those painful events that claimed the lives of millions of our proud Assyrian people, including the massacres that took place in Hakkari, Tur-Abdin, and other areas at the hands of the Ottomans and the allied Kurdish clan gangs during World War I, and passing through the first treasonous heroism of the so-called Iraqi army, when the Assyrian leadership at that time demanded the rights of the Assyrian people in the Assyrian triangle in agreement with the British in exchange for annexing the Mosul region to the Iraqi state upon its establishment. However, after the establishment of the so-called Iraqi state, the so-called Iraqi army and its allies from the Kurdish clans committed massacres against the defenseless Assyrians, resulting in thousands of Assyrian deaths in Simele and many areas of the holy land of Assyria, and the destruction of 65 Assyrian villages. This continues to the Suriya massacre and the displacement and killing by ISIS gangs in Nineveh and Khabur.

 

Today is the seventh of August, Assyrian Martyr’s Day. On this great day, we bow our heads in reverence and honor to the martyrs of our people and our homeland, Assyria, and renew our pledge to them to continue confronting the enemies of our nation and the invaders of Assyria with steadfastness in order to achieve a dignified life for our people so they may enjoy freedom under the flag of Assyria and on the holy land of Assyria.

 

Today also marks the third founding anniversary of The Supreme body for Establishing the Parliament of the Land of Assyria. Its coincidence with Assyrian Martyr’s Day is not by chance, but rather evidence of the pledge we renew to our righteous martyrs and to the people of our nation everywhere and on the holy land of Assyria, assuring them that we are following in their footsteps. We will make every oppressor and aggressor regret their actions against our proud Assyrian people. The policies of killing, marginalization, and displacement only make us more attached to the holy land of Assyria and to the history of our Assyrian nation, which we are proud of as a history of a people who provided all of humanity with science, knowledge, and civilization.

 

We, in The Supreme body for Establishing the Parliament of the Land of Assyria, look forward to the unity of our people and the consolidation of their ranks in order to establish a unified legitimate leadership capable of confronting false policies and attempts to eliminate the Assyrian nation to seize the land of Assyria and plunder its identity, history, and resources. Therefore, this year, we have taken steps towards achieving unified action to establish legitimate leadership for our Assyrian nation. We have begun joint work with The Preparatory Committee for the Assyrian World Conference towards establishing the long-awaited unified leadership. Now we have an agenda and actual steps towards the desired goal. We appeal to our people’s institutions to participate effectively and support this project to give a new opportunity for our people to live in freedom and dignity on the land of our ancestors.
